GIrls Guns and Glory: Year in Review: 2011
2011 has truly been a great year here in
GGG Land. Like most years, it’s been
filled with highs, lows and plenty of somewhere
in betweens.
We had brushes with sports celebrities when
Chad Ochocinco took a shine to the band & especially
our song “Universe Began”. Then
a huge highlight for us came when we performed
before the Patriots vs Cowboys game at Gillette
Stadium and got to see our mugs up on the
Jumbo-Tron. Later that week Ochocinco posted
a pic of himself rockin’ one of our new
T-Shirts on Twitter!! Yeah, Twitter.
By the time the ball drops this New Years
Eve we’ll have played over 170 shows
this year, in 30 US States, and put over
50,000 miles on our trusty van. Traveled
coast to coast, Northeast to Southwest, and
almost everywhere in between.
We shared the stage with some of our favorite
up and coming bands like Dawes, Hoots & Hellmouth,
Miss Tess & The Bon Ton Parade, and Lake
Street Dive, to got to rock with some of
our all-time favorite artists like Southern
Culture on the Skids, Dale Watson, & Rock ‘n’ Roll
Hall of Fame inductee: Wanda Jackson.
We released our new album “Sweet
Nothings” in
August and were thrilled to see it make some
very cool “Best of” lists on PopMatters, Yahoo
Music, Honest
Tune & No,
Your Product and
got to see it chart in the Top 20 on the
AMA Chart.
Something that really put a smile on our
faces was taking home “Americana Artist
of the Year” at the 2011 Boston Music
Awards.
We had to say goodbye to our good friend
Michael Calabrese, who’s served as
GGG’s most consistent drummer for the
past 2 1/2 years. He is one seriously talented
and busy guy, and as you know GGG has a schedule
that isn’t gonna be slowing down any
time soon. So, we have welcomed to our family
Josh Kiggans. A longtime friend, incredible
drummer and all around good guy. You all
are gonna love him and we can’t wait
to get Josh out on the road and into the
studio with us.
We started 2011 with something that meant
a great deal to us. Honoring our biggest
songwriting influence, Hank Williams, with
a tribute show on January 1st. We’ll
be back in Boston again this year on Jan
1st at the Lizard Lounge to perform our Tribute
to Hank Williams with The Sweet & Lowdown
(featuring Miss Tess & Rachel Price)
once again opening the show.
Thank you for your incredible support in
2011, without you supporting us, encouraging
us and sharing our music with those around
you, we’d be sitting at home wishing
we were driving all over the place making
rock ‘n’ roll music.
We are really looking forward to a wonderful
and eventful 2012. We’ll be starting
work on a new album, touring all over the
US and returning to Europe in March & April.
So, be sure to keep in touch with us on Facebook & Twitter,
support local music and truly, thank you
again from the bottom of our road weary little
hearts.
Come see us and say hello each time we come
to your town!!
